What is the difference between the Ella Tub4Two and Big4Two?

The main difference between the Ella Tub4Two and the Ella Big4Two is size. The Tub4Two measures 32 by 60 inches and fits a standard 60 inch opening, while the Big4Two measures 36 by 80 inches and is the longest of the four two-seaters. Both use the frameless outward-swing U-shape door with the 3-latch gear and shaft lock and both seat two bathers facing each other with independent jets at each seat, and the whole family is laid out in Choosing a Two-Seat Walk-In Tub: Companion, Escape, Tub4Two, and Big4Two Compared.

The Two-Seat Family Side by Side

The Tub4Two figures come from its current spec sheet dated 04/01/26. The Big4Two size and door come from the model questions guide and the two-seat brochure; where the sources on this page print no figure for the Big4Two, the cell says not listed rather than guessing. The Companion and Escape are included because they share the two footprints with an inward door instead.

Read across the rows and the pattern is simple. The Tub4Two and the Companion share a 32 by 60 inch footprint and differ by door swing, and the Big4Two and the Escape are the 36 inch wide tubs that again differ by door swing, with the Big4Two the longer of the two. If your alcove is a standard 60 inches, the Tub4Two is the outward-door choice. If you have the wall length and want the most room, the Big4Two is the outward-door choice. If the door has to swing in, the same decision points you to the Companion or the Escape.

Size, Footprint and What Ships

The Tub4Two stands 40 inches tall, arrives in a 34 by 62 by 50 inch crate, and weighs 230 pounds net and 325 pounds crated. It holds 100 gallons unoccupied and 65 to 85 gallons with two bathers in it, since each body displaces part of the water. When you plan the path into the house, measure doorways and hallways against the crate, not the tub. The Big4Two is 36 inches wide by 80 inches long. Its height, capacity and weight are not in the documents on this page, so ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 to read them from the Big4Two spec sheet before you size a water heater or a floor.

The Door: Both Swing Out

Both tubs use the frameless outward-swing U-shape door with Ella's 3-latch gear and shaft locking mechanism, a white composite frame and a tempered frosted glass panel. One point needs to be set straight: the feature list on the Tub4Two's 04/01/26 spec sheet mentions an inward-swinging stainless steel door, and that line is a misprint. The Tub4Two has the outward-swinging door, exactly as the two-seat video tour and the model questions guide describe. Because the door opens away from the tub, both models need clear floor space in front of the tub for the door arc. The two inward-door two-seaters, the Companion and the Escape, use a brushed stainless steel door with frosted glass that lifts out for cleaning; the Companion only comes that way, and the team has confirmed the Escape cannot be built to swing out. Seats and Soaking Room

The Tub4Two's two seats measure 20 inches and 22 inches wide, one on each end, facing each other. They are the narrowest in the two-seat family, which is what lets two seats fit in a 60 inch tub. The Companion, in the same footprint, uses 23 and 25 inch seats, and the Escape goes to 27 and 29 inches, the widest Ella offers. The Escape profile gives its overall soaking length as 60 inches. The Big4Two's seat widths are not published in the sources on this page. What every two-seater shares is that each seat is a full bathing space with its own jets, so one bather alone can also stretch out with feet up on the other seat, as the two-seat video tour points out.

Therapy Systems on Each Tub

The Tub4Two ships with three systems and a digital controller, and there is no soaker version. Its spec sheet lists:

• Seat hydro massage on a 9A 1250W pump with an intensity dial, feeding 18 upper seat jets, 9 on each seat, run from the digital controller.
• Foot and calf hydro massage on its own 7A 1000W pump with its own intensity dial, feeding 4 foot jets and 4 calf jets, with an on/off push control, a 6A 800W in-line heater and 0.04A ozone sterilization.
• Three-speed air massage on a 4.5A 500W pump with 12 seat jets, 6 on each seat, plus 6 foot jets. Auto Purge starts 20 minutes after the air pump is switched off and runs for 120 seconds to blow water out of the air lines; it is automatic and cannot be stopped.
• A 0.5A multicolor LED chromatherapy light with transformer, run from the digital control pad.
• Optional microbubble therapy on a 1 HP 7.3A pump with pressure vessel and agitator valve, and an optional heated seat and backrest.

The Big4Two is the tub drawn in the two-seat brochure with the Air plus Hydro option, and the brochure callout map walks through that diagram: back hydro jets, hip and thigh hydro jets, 4 foot hydro jets at each seat, upper, lower and bidet air jets, the LED light, the hydro intensity dial and the Digital Push Control that runs hydro, three-speed air, the light and the foot jets. The family comparison video also singles out the Big4Two's independent foot massage. Jet counts differ by model and therapy option, and the Big4Two's own counts are not in the sources on this page. Both tubs share the family basics: three-speed air with Auto Purge, hydro with an in-line heater and intensity dial, ozone sterilization, and options for Infusion microbubbles, chromatherapy, aromatherapy with your own essential oils, heated seats and a glass screen.

Faucets, Showers and Drains

The Tub4Two spec sheet lists two 2-piece fast-fill faucets, one per seat, each designed for up to 16 GPM at 60 PSI under ideal in-home plumbing, with two 5 foot 3/4 inch supply lines and a pull-out chrome hand shower on a 5 foot braided hose limited to 1.9 GPM. Each faucet mounts through a 2-1/2 inch hole, a 1/3 inch hole for the mounting rods and a 7/8 inch diagonal hole for the hand shower. Across the family the brochure offers the Ella 5-piece or 2-piece fast-fill faucet in chrome. The Big4Two accessories video on this page shows what the longer deck allows: dual rain shower heads at both ends of the tub so one bather can stand while the other sits, dual extendable multi-function hand showers, and a four-fold glass screen that can be combined with a three-fold screen in place of a shower curtain. Both tubs drain through Ella's Dual Drain Technology, two 2 inch 4-port PVC drains with two overflows and two stainless steel openers with extended chrome handles. The Tub4Two requires dedicated GFCI-protected 115V 60Hz electrical lines for its equipment.
