What is the difference between the Ella Tub4Two and Escape?

Updated November 2026

The Ella Tub4Two and the Ella Escape are both true two-seat walk-in tubs with a molded seat at each end and jets at each seat, and they differ in size, seat width and door. The Tub4Two measures 32 by 60 by 40 inches with 20 and 22 inch seats behind an outward-swinging U-shape door, while the Escape measures 36 by 72 by 40 inches with 27 and 29 inch seats behind an inward-swinging brushed stainless steel door that lifts out for cleaning. The same door split runs through the whole two-seat family, which What is the difference between the Ella Tub4Two and Companion tubs? covers from the 60 inch side. This page lines the Tub4Two up against the Escape and shows where the Companion and the Big4Two fall for anyone weighing the Escape against those two.

The Two-Seat Tubs Side by Side

The Tub4Two figures come from its spec sheet dated 04/01/26, the Escape figures from the Escape video and the published model guides, and the Companion and Big4Two figures from the model guides. Where no figure is published in those sources the cell says not listed.

What the table means: the Tub4Two and the Escape sit at opposite corners of the family. One is the compact outward-door tub and the other is the wide inward-door tub, so choosing between them is really two decisions at once. If you want the Escape's inward door but only have a 60 inch opening, the Companion is the match. If you want the Tub4Two's outward door but have the wall length for more room, the Big4Two is the match, and What is the difference between the Ella Tub4Two and Big4Two? compares those two. Seat width follows the model, and the Escape's 27 and 29 inch seats are the widest in the family.

The Door Is the First Decision

The Tub4Two has an outward-swinging U-shape door with a tempered glass panel set in a white composite frame, locked with the 3-latch gear and shaft mechanism. The current Tub4Two spec sheet is titled as an outward swing door tub, and that is the door it ships with; if you come across a line on paperwork describing the Tub4Two with an inward stainless door, that line is a misprint. The Escape only comes with the inward door, a custom crafted brushed stainless steel door that the video on this page shows lifting out so you can clean behind it. The practical difference is floor space. An outward door needs room in front of the tub to swing, while an inward door does not, so the Escape and the Companion are the answers when there is no floor space in front of the tub, and the Tub4Two and the Big4Two are the answers when you want the white outward door.

Seats, Soaking Room and Water

The Escape is built for interior space. Its video describes a full 27 inch wide seat on one side, 29 inches on the other, and 60 inches of overall soaking length, which is why Ella calls it a large, comfortable two-seat tub with a tremendous amount of soaking room. The Tub4Two's seats are 20 and 22 inches wide. That room costs water: the Tub4Two holds 100 gallons unoccupied and 65 to 85 gallons with two bathers in it, while the Escape holds 145 gallons unoccupied and 85 to 135 gallons occupied, since each body displaces part of the water. Weight follows the same pattern, 230 pounds net and 325 pounds crated for the Tub4Two against 286 and 398 pounds for the Escape. The Tub4Two arrives in a 34 by 62 by 50 inch crate; the Escape's crate size is not listed on this page, so ask for it before planning the path through the house, and measure doorways and hallways against the crate rather than the tub.

What Is in the Therapy Package

Neither tub is offered as a soaker, because the two-seat models are built around the digital controller and always include at least one massage system; Common Model Questions explains that rule. On the Tub4Two spec sheet the included package is three systems. Hydro massage for the seat jets runs 18 upper seat jets, 9 at each seat, from a 9A 1250W pump with an intensity dial and the digital controller. Hydro massage for the feet runs 4 foot and 4 calf jets from a separate 7A 1000W pump with its own intensity dial and an on/off push control, with a 6A 800W in-line water heater and 0.04A ozone sterilization. Air massage runs 12 seat jets, 6 at each seat, and 6 foot jets from a 4.5A 500W three-speed pump with Auto Purge, which starts about 20 minutes after the pump is turned off and runs for 120 seconds to clear the lines. A multicolor LED chromatherapy light rated 0.5A is controlled from the digital pad, and a microbubble system with a 1 HP 7.3A pump and a heated seat and backrest are the two options.

The Escape video shows the same kind of package in use: digital touch controls, a three-speed air massage with Auto Purge, hydro massage with an in-line water heater and an intensity control dial, eco-friendly ozone sterilization, and Ella's independent foot massage so you can enjoy a foot and calf massage without filling the whole tub. Heated seats are optional and switch on with a push of a button, and the patented 360 degree swivel tray comes standard. The Escape's jet counts are not listed in the sources on this page, so ask for its spec sheet if the count matters. Both tubs appear in the Available On box of the digital controller schematic, explained in What the Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot Digital Controller Schematic Shows, which is the drawing to keep with either tub's paperwork. On the three-speed air control the first press is high, the second is medium, the third is low, and a fourth press turns it off.

Faucets, Drains and the Electrical Line

The Tub4Two ships with a two-piece fast fill faucet rated up to 16 GPM at 60 PSI under ideal in-home plumbing, two 5 foot supply lines with 3/4 inch connectors, and a pull-out chrome hand shower limited to 1.9 GPM on a 5 foot retractable braided hose. The spec sheet notes that the faucet installs through a 2-1/2 inch hole for the faucet, a 1/3 inch hole for the mounting rods as printed, and a 7/8 inch diagonal hole for the hand shower. The Escape video describes a twin two-piece fast-fill faucet set with dual extendable multi-function hand showers, one for each bather. Both tubs use Ella's dual drain arrangement, two 2 inch 4-port drains with two overflows and two openers for fast gravity drainage. The Tub4Two spec sheet calls for dedicated GFCI protected 115V 60Hz electrical lines, and your electrician should plan from the spec sheet for whichever tub you choose. Common Questions

Does the Escape come with an outward swing door?
No. The Escape only comes with the inward-swinging brushed stainless steel door, which is removable for easy cleaning. If you want a two-seat tub with the white outward U-shape door, the choices are the Tub4Two at 32 by 60 inches and the Big4Two at 36 by 80 inches.
Does the Tub4Two door swing in or out?
Out. The Tub4Two has an outward-swinging U-shape door with a tempered glass panel in a white composite frame and a 3-latch gear and shaft lock. The Companion is the tub with the inward stainless steel door in the same 32 by 60 inch footprint.
Can I order the Tub4Two or the Escape without jets?
No. The Tub4Two, Companion, Escape and Big4Two are built around the digital controller and always include at least one massage system. If a two-seat soaker matters to you, ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 before assuming one can be built.
Which two-seat tub fits a standard 60 inch alcove?
The Tub4Two, at 32 by 60 by 40 inches, and the Companion, at 32 by 60 inches. The Escape is 72 inches long and the Big4Two is 80 inches long, so both need more wall length than a standard tub opening provides.
Does the Escape have independent foot massage?
Yes. The Escape video shows Ella's independent foot massage with strategically placed foot and calf jets, so you can enjoy a hydro foot massage without filling the entire tub. The Tub4Two's spec sheet lists the same idea as a separate foot and calf hydro pump with its own dial and on/off control.
How much water do the Tub4Two and the Escape hold?
The Tub4Two holds 100 gallons unoccupied and 65 to 85 gallons occupied. The Escape holds 145 gallons unoccupied and 85 to 135 gallons occupied. The occupied range varies with the size of the bathers, since each body displaces part of the water.
