What are the size and features of the Ella Big4Two two-seat tub?

The Ella Big4Two is a two-seat acrylic walk-in tub with an actual size of 36 inches wide by 80 inches long by 40 inches tall. It has two facing seats 22 and 24 inches wide and an outward-swing door. Per its current spec sheet it includes seat hydro massage, an independent foot and calf hydro massage with an in-line water heater and ozone, three-speed air massage and an LED chromatherapy light. It is the model drawn in Where Everything Is on a Two-Seat Tub: The Brochure Callout Diagram Explained, which labels every part you will see on the tub.

Size, Weight and Water Capacity

These are the figures printed on the Big4Two spec sheet.

• Actual size: 36 inches by 80 inches by 40 inches.
• Seats: two, 22 inches and 24 inches wide, facing each other.
• Water capacity: 145 gallons unoccupied, 85 to 135 gallons occupied.
• Weight: 328 pounds net, 531 pounds shipping weight.
• Shipping size: 38 inches by 82 inches by 50 inches.

The Big4Two is the largest outward-swing two-seater in the Ella family. At 80 inches long it will not drop into the standard 60 inch tub alcove that the smaller Companion is designed for. It needs a space planned around it. The crate is larger again than the tub, so measure the delivery path against the shipping size as well as the bathroom against the actual size.

How the Big4Two Compares with the Other Two-Seat Tubs

Ella builds four two-seat walk-in tubs. The table uses only figures published in the spec sheet and the live two-seat guides. Where a figure is not published in those sources, the cell says so.

What the differences mean: the Big4Two gives you the most length, 8 inches more than the Escape and 20 inches more than the Companion. The Escape has the widest seats. The Big4Two and the Escape list the same water capacity, so the choice between them comes down to two things: length against seat width, and an outward door against an inward one.

An outward-swing door opens into the room, so plan clear floor space in front of the Big4Two. An inward door like the Escape's suits a bathroom where that space is tight. If your bathroom has a standard 60 inch alcove and the bathers are medium to petite, the Ella Companion two-seat walk-in tub is the model built for that footprint.

Door, Shell, Frame and Drains

The spec sheet lists these construction features:

• Door: a plastic composite and tempered glass door that swings outward and closes with a 3 latch gear and shaft mechanism.
• Shell: gloss white acrylic, fiberglass gelcoat reinforced.
• Frame: stainless steel with adjustable leveling legs.
• Panels: a removable front apron with two access panels, and one reversible end panel.
• Grab bar: a stainless steel, chrome finish, wall-mounted grab bar.

As the two-seat video explains, these tubs have an easy entry low threshold and a textured floor for safety, like all Ella walk-in tubs.

Draining is handled by two 2 inch 4-port PVC drains with 2 end caps included and 2 overflows. There are also 2 stainless-steel cable operated openers with extended handles in chrome finish. The drain is the Ella 2 inch T-type dual port floor drain. The two floor drains are independent, the four 2 inch ports allow installation in either direction, and the house drain can connect to either or both ports. Ella calls this Dual Drain Technology. It is the reason a tub holding up to 145 gallons still empties through gravity alone.

Therapy Systems Included

• Hydro massage for the seat jets. A 9 amp, 1250 watt hydro massage pump feeds 16 upper seat jets, 8 on each seat. It has an intensity dial air control and runs from the digital controller.
• Hydro massage for the foot and calf jets. A separate 7 amp, 1000 watt pump drives 4 foot and 4 calf jets, with an intensity dial and an on/off push control. This system also has a 6 amp, 800 watt in-line water heater and 0.04 amp ozone sterilization.
• Air massage. A 4.5 amp, 500 watt three-speed pump feeds 18 seat jets, 9 on each seat, plus 4 foot jets. It runs from the digital controller. Auto-Purge activates 20 minutes after the pump is turned off and runs for 120 seconds to clear residual water from the air lines.
• LED chromatherapy light. A multicolor 0.5 amp LED bulb on a transformer, controlled by the digital control pad.

The second video on this page shows why the foot system has its own pump. You can sit in comfort and enjoy a powerful foot and calf massage without having to fill the entire tub. The video also points out the in-line water heater, the intensity control dial that adjusts the power of the jet stream, and the three-speed air massage with auto purge.

Two optional features are listed on the spec sheet. One is a MicroBubble Therapy System, with a 1 HP 7.3 amp pump, pressure vessel, on/off push control and agitator valve. The other is a heated seat and backrest.

Who Controls What When Two People Bathe

The Big4Two is a true two-seat tub, which means two independent bathing spaces rather than one extra-large well. Each seat has its own jets. The brochure diagram labels the foot hydro jets for each seat, to make the point that every bather gets their own footwell massage.

Faucet, Accessories and What to Plan Before Installation

The spec sheet lists the Ella two-piece fast fill faucet. The two-seat brochure lists the Ella 5-piece or 2-piece fast-fill faucet in chrome. The video adds that you can also use a faucet set of your own choosing.

The two-piece fast fill faucet has these listed features:

• Up to 16 GPM at 60 PSI with ideal in-home plumbing.
• A 40mm high-flow cartridge.
• Two 5 foot water supply lines with 3/4 inch connectors.
• A pull-out chrome hand shower on a 5 foot retractable stainless-steel braided hose, limited to 1.9 GPM.

The supply lines connect to shut-off valves, which are not included.

The accessories video on this page shows the exclusive add-ons for this model:

For electrical, the spec sheet requires dedicated GFCI protected electrical lines for the 115V 60Hz equipment. All fixtures go to a dedicated GFCI outlet or GFCI breaker.
