Which Ella walk-in tub is 33x66, and does it come right-hand?

Updated November 2026

The 33 by 66 inch walk-in tub in the Ella's Bubbles line is the Big4One, published as the Big4One Walk-In Tub with Outward Swing Door 33 by 66 inches with Dual Drain Technology and built for tall and broad bathers. It does not come in a right-hand or a left-hand version: its outward-swing U-shape door sits in the middle of the long side of the tub and cannot be moved to one side. Ella Big4One 33x66: Large Single-Seat Tub for Tall and Broad Bathers gives the full model picture, and this page settles the hand question and what a centered door means for your room.

Why the Big4One Has No Left or Right Hand

On a handed Ella walk-in tub, the hand describes which side the door and seat sit on as you face the tub, with the drains on the opposite side. Can My Walk-In Tub Door Be Changed to Swing the Other Way? explains that swing direction is a factory build choice built into the shell, the door frame and the latch mechanism, and that a model is ordered in the hand you need. The Big4One is laid out differently. Its U-shape door is centered on the long side, it swings outward through 165 degrees, and it cannot be moved toward either end. The spec sheet lists a 24 inch seat width, and the profile describes the seat as about 21 to 22 inches long.

The rest of the hardware is built so the tub works from either end.

  • One reversible end panel is included, and a second end panel can be added if a third side is exposed. The long back of the tub sits against a wall.
  • Two 2 inch 4-port PVC drains with two end caps, two overflows and two stainless-steel operated openers with extended chrome handles. Each T-type dual-port floor drain lets the house drain connect to either or both ports, with an end cap on any port that is not used.
  • No extension panel is included. The alcove must measure at least 66 inches from finished wall to finished wall.

If a right-hand door is a firm requirement for your bathroom, say so when you call and have your room and doorway measurements ready. The team can match you to a handed model that fits, and on those models left or right is specified as you face the tub.

What the table means: if the room is between 60 and 72 inches long and the bather is tall, the Big4One is the model to look at, and the hand question simply falls away because the door is centered. If the room is handed in a way that matters, with the house drain on a fixed side and a door that must open on the right, a handed model is the answer. The Elite is the smallest example in the table, and Ella ShaK 36x72: The Largest Single-Seat Walk-In Tub covers the step up from the Big4One for bathers around 6 feet 4 inches and taller.

Fitting a 33 by 66 Tub into the Room

The Big4One's actual size is 33 1/8 inches wide by 66 inches long by 39.5 inches high, so every doorway, hallway and turn on the way to the bathroom must be wider than 33 1/8 inches once the panels are off, and the alcove must measure at least 66 inches from finished wall to finished wall. The shipping crate is 36 by 68 by 49 inches at 400 lbs, with the tub itself at 271 lbs, so plan the path up to the entry around the crate and the path inside the house around the bare tub. The U-shape door swings 165 degrees and needs about 21 inches of clear floor in front of it, which is the measurement people forget when they are focused on the alcove length. What doorway and room size does the Ella Big4One 33x66 need? applies the finished-wall rule in detail. The imperial figures on the spec sheet are the authoritative ones; the litre values printed beside the water capacity are misprints and should be ignored.

Who the Big4One Is for, and What Ships with It

The team recommends the Big4One for bathers around 6 feet and taller with broad shoulders, and does not recommend it for bathers under about 6 feet, because its very long seat is designed for taller bathers and is uncomfortable for a normal to shorter person. A quick check: sit in a chair and measure from the bottom of the backrest to the bottom of your knee, and look for 21 inches or more. Larger bathers who are not tall are usually happier in the TransferXXL or Monaco, and bathers 6 feet 4 inches and taller may prefer the ShaK.

The tub holds 127 gallons of water unoccupied and 75 to 100 gallons when occupied, with the occupied figure varying by bather size, and Ella's installation video for the model recommends 3/4 inch supply lines for faster filling. The Big4One ships with the digital-controller Air plus dual Hydro package and is not sold as a soaker. The seat hydro system has 15 upper seat jets on a 9A 900W pump. The foot and calf hydro system has 4 foot and 2 calf jets on a 7A 900W pump with a 6A 750W in-line heater and ozone sterilization. The air system has 12 seat and 4 foot jets on a 4.5A 500W three-speed pump with Auto Purge, which activates automatically 20 minutes after the air pump is turned off. The LED chromatherapy light is rated 0.5A, microbubble therapy and a heated seat and backrest are optional, and the tub needs dedicated 115V 60Hz GFCI protected lines, two 20A lines standard and three with microbubbles. The 5-piece Fast-Fill faucet has a solid brass spout in a chrome finish, and What finish is the faucet on the Ella Big4One 33x66 tub? lists the finish of every exposed part.

Common Questions

Is the Big4One available with a right-hand door?
No. The Big4One's U-shape door sits in the middle of the long side of the tub and cannot be moved to one side, so there is no right-hand or left-hand version. If a right-hand door is essential, the team can match you to a handed model once you share your room and doorway measurements.
Which side are the drains on a Big4One tub?
The Big4One has two independent 2 inch floor drains with two overflows and two openers rather than one drain on one side. Each dual-port drain body lets the house drain connect to either or both ports, and the unused port is closed with an included end cap.
Will a 33 by 66 Big4One fit a 60 inch alcove?
No. The tub is 66 inches long, so the alcove must measure at least 66 inches from finished wall to finished wall, and no extension panel is included. For a 60 inch opening the team will point you to a 60 inch model instead.
How much clear floor does the Big4One door need?
The outward U-shape door swings 165 degrees and needs about 21 inches of clear floor in front of the tub. Measure that space along with the 66 inch alcove and the 33 1/8 inch passage width before ordering.
Can I order the 33 by 66 Big4One without jets?
No. The Big4One ships with the digital-controller Air plus dual Hydro package and is not sold as a soaker. Microbubble therapy and a heated seat and backrest are the optional additions.
Is the Big4One a good fit for a bather under 6 feet tall?
The team does not recommend it for bathers under about 6 feet, because the very long seat is designed for taller bathers. Smaller bathers can use it and simply have extra room, but a 60 inch model usually fits them better.
