What Is a GFCI for a Walk-In Tub?

A GFCI, short for ground fault circuit interrupter, is the ground-fault protection that every jetted Ella walk-in tub requires on its own dedicated 20A/120V circuit. Whether it lives in the outlet as a GFCI receptacle or in the panel as a GFCI breaker, its job is the same: watch the current flowing out to the tub and back, and cut power the moment any of it leaks to ground. How It Works

Under normal operation the current leaving on the hot conductor equals the current returning on the neutral. If some of that current finds another path, such as through water or through a person, the GFCI senses the imbalance and opens the circuit almost instantly.
