Ella's Bubbles walk-in tubs run from the Mobile, at 26 inches wide by 45 inches long, up to the LayDown72 at 32 inches wide by 72 inches long, with the 52 inch models in between serving as the usual size for a standard bathroom. The compact end of the line is profiled in What is the smallest bathtub size you can buy for a bathroom?, and this page lays the whole range out by length so you can see which size band your bathroom falls into. Every figure here is the actual factory size from the current spec sheets or the published drawings, not the rounded name on the brochure.
Walk-In Tub Sizes from Shortest to Longest
| Model | Actual size (W x L x H) | Seat width | Door | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Front Entry | 32 x 40 x 40 in. | 25 in. | Outward-swing U-shape | The shortest footprint front to back; single-wide mobile homes |
| Mobile | 26 x 45 in., 39 1/4 in. high | 19 to 20 in. | Outward-swing U-shape, 165 degree swing | A 45 inch space, a corner, or a 25 inch doorway with the frame removed |
| Flow | 28 x 48 x 36.5 in. | 20 in. | Inward acrylic S-shape | The shortest of the inward-swing acrylic door models |
| Elite | 30 x 52 x 35 in. | 22 in. | Inward stainless steel and glass | The usual 52 inch tub for a standard bathroom |
| Transfer32 | 32 x 52 in. nominal, height not listed | 24 in. | L-shape outward door | A broader bather who still needs a 52 inch length |
| Lounger | 27 x 59 x 40 in. | 20 in. | Outward-swing U-shape | A narrow tub at nearly full alcove length |
| LayDown 30x60 | 30 x 60 x 21 in. | not listed | Glass door | A lay-down soak in a 60 inch opening; customer-supplied faucet |
| LayDown72 | 32 x 72 in., height not listed | not listed | Glass door | The longest lay-down tub; faucet-ready |
Read the table in three bands. Below 52 inches you give up either side entry, as on the Front Entry, or a few inches of interior room, as on the Mobile and Flow, in exchange for a tub that fits a space a standard tub cannot. At 52 inches the models differ in width and seat width rather than length, so the choice is about the doorway and the bather, not the opening. From 59 inches up the tub fills a full-length opening, and the lay-down tubs trade the seated walk-in layout for a reclined soak. Height matters too: the stainless-door tubs stand 35 inches while most outward-swing and Transfer models stand 40 inches, and the LayDown 30x60 is only 21 inches high.
The Compact End: 40 to 48 Inches Long
Three models sit below the 52 inch mark, and each gets there in a different way. The Front Entry has the shortest footprint front to back at 40 inches, but it needs 32 inches of width and you enter it from the front rather than the side, which is why it is the pick for single-wide mobile homes. The Mobile is the smallest tub in the line at 26 by 45 inches and 39 1/4 inches high. It fits a 45 inch space or a corner, passes a 25 inch doorway with the frame removed, and still carries a full seat, a grab bar and a hydro or air and hydro therapy package. Its interior length is 38 7/8 inches, the seat measures 19 inches on the video and 20 inches in the manual, and the step-in is about 3 3/4 inches. The Flow, at 28 by 48 by 36.5 inches with a 20 inch seat, is the shortest of the inward-swing acrylic door models.
If your search is for the smallest walk-in tub that still has all the jets, the answer is the Mobile. Its compact frame changes the interior figures, not the therapy choice, so a hydro package or an air and hydro package is available at 45 inches.
The 52 Inch Tubs: The Usual Size for a Standard Bathroom
Most of the Ella lineup carries a 52 inch length, and this is the size people usually mean by a standard walk-in tub. The models differ in width and seat width:
- Transfer26: 26 by 52 by 40 inches with a 19 inch seat and an L-shape outward door, the narrowest wheelchair transfer tub. It ships with an 8 inch extension panel so the 52 inch tub fits snugly into a standard alcove.
- Petite: 27.5 by 52 by 35 inches actual, sold as 28 by 52 nominal, with a 19 inch seat and an inward stainless steel and glass door for a smaller bather.
- Elite: 30 by 52 by 35 inches with a 22 inch seat and the same stainless door, the usual 52 inch tub for a standard bathroom.
- Transfer30: 30 inches wide by 52 inches long with a 22 inch seat.
- Transfer32: 32 inches wide by 52 inches long with a 24 inch seat, for a broader bather who still needs a 52 inch length.
Within the Transfer family the choice among the three 52 inch models is width and seat width, which climb from 19 inches to 24 inches as the tub widens from 26 to 32 inches. Every Transfer model is offered as a soaking tub with no jets as well as with therapy packages, so jets never narrow the size choice. What is the shortest wheelchair transfer tub and which come without jets? ranks that whole family.
55 to 60 Inches: Filling a Full Tub Opening
The next band fills a full-length opening. The TransferXXL adds width rather than length at 36 inches wide by 55 inches long, for bariatric bathers who need extra room side to side. The Lounger is a narrow tub at nearly full alcove length, 27 by 59 by 40 inches with a 20 inch seat. The Transfer60 is sold as 30 by 60 inches and measures 29.5 by 60 by 40 inches actual, with a 22 inch seat; it trades the longer footprint for the longest seat and footwell in the Transfer family. The HomeCare transfer bathtub is 32 inches wide by 60 inches long, 31 1/2 by 59 7/8 inches on the drawing, and is built for assisted bathing setups with a fast-fill water tank. The LayDown 30x60 measures 60 inches long by 30 inches wide by 21 inches high. It is never sold with a factory faucet and has no faucet option, so it needs a pre-existing or customer-supplied faucet, typically wall-mounted.
The 72 Inch Lay-Down Tubs
The longest tub in the lay-down family is the LayDown72 at 32 inches wide by 72 inches long. Unlike the LayDown60 it is faucet-ready and offers optional Ella deck-mount faucets. The video on this page walks through the lay-down line: it shows the two configurations, a 60 inch model and a 72 inch model, each offered with left or right drains and with air and water jets, and it shows the oversized 2 inch drain and the adjustable foot jets. The presenter describes the lay-down tub as an easy-access option for a busy household with young children as well as for seniors who want a lay-down bath without the step over a conventional tub wall.
How to Read the Sizes for Your Bathroom
Length decides whether a tub fits the opening, width decides whether it passes the doorway and how much elbow room the bather has, and seat width decides comfort once seated. Measure the opening and the narrowest doorway on the route in, then compare against the actual size rather than the nominal name: the Petite is 27.5 inches wide although it is sold as 28, and the Transfer60 is 29.5 inches wide although it is sold as 30. Check the height as well, because a 40 inch tub and a 35 inch tub meet a wall-mounted faucet or a window sill differently. If the room will take a shower instead of a tub, the shower pans follow a different ladder, with three standard sizes of 30 by 60, 32 by 60 and 36 by 60 inches laid out in What sizes do shower pans come in, from smallest to largest?. When you are ready to confirm a model, your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 can check the actual size against your measurements.
