No. Ella's Bubbles does not make a neo-angle shower pan, with or without a curb, because every Ella shower base is a rectangle. What you can have in a corner is a custom rectangular base with a raised threshold of about 3 inches, which is the edge most people mean when they say curb. The full shape rules are in Can Ella Make L-Shaped, Neo-Angle, or Other Non-Rectangular Shower Bases?, and this page stays with the corner and curb question.
Why a Neo-Angle Pan Is Not Something the Factory Molds
An Ella shower base is not formed, lined or grouted in your bathroom. It comes out of a mold at the factory as a finished acrylic piece that already carries the drain and the threshold. Because the base is molded, its shape is settled at the factory, and the molds produce rectangles. Bases with angled or curved edges are not offered, so the clipped front corner that defines a neo-angle pan is not available on any order, standard or custom.
What can change from one base to the next comes down to three decisions, all made before the base is molded:
- The size of the rectangle, meaning its length and width.
- Where the drain sits: left, right or center.
- How tall the threshold is.
That is the whole menu. A clipped corner for a neo-angle door is not on it. If your room truly only works with an angled pan, that is the point at which an Ella base is not the right fit and it makes sense to look elsewhere. If a rectangle can be drawn into the corner, the rest of this page shows what Ella can build for it.
The Curb You Can Have on a Rectangular Corner Base
Ella's materials use the word threshold for the edge you step or roll across at the entry. If you are asking for a curb, you are asking for a raised threshold, and that part of your request can be met. The choices are:
- A raised threshold. A 3 inch step-in threshold base is offered for those who prefer a slightly raised edge, and a custom base typically has a threshold of about 3 inches.
- A zero threshold. Zero threshold bases sit flush with the surrounding floor for a barrier-free entry.
- A curb-less roll-in edge. Roll-in bases have no threshold to step or roll over, and they ship with a self-adhesive collapsible rubber dam that keeps water in while a wheelchair rolls over it.
On a custom base the threshold goes on the longer side, so the entry of a custom corner base faces out from the long edge of the rectangle. The threshold is molded into the acrylic along with the slope and the drain. That means the base is ready to use once it is set, and it must not be tiled over.
Corner and Curb Options Side by Side
The table sets the neo-angle request against the rectangular bases Ella does produce, using only the figures Ella publishes.
| Option | Made by Ella? | Published size | Edge at the entry | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Neo-angle corner pan | No | not listed | not listed | Not a fit for an Ella base |
| Custom rectangle in a two-wall corner | Yes | 30 by 30 inches minimum up to 42 by 60 inches | Typically a threshold of about 3 inches | A corner shower with a curb and square edges instead of an angled front |
| Custom rectangle in a three-wall alcove | Yes | 30 by 30 inches minimum up to 44 inches wide by 80 inches long | Typically a threshold of about 3 inches | For spaces shorter, longer or wider than the standard sizes |
| Standard base | Yes | 30 by 60, 32 by 60 and 36 by 60 inches | Curb-less roll-in, with a 3 inch step-in threshold base also offered | The simplest choice when one fits, because the drain sits in a set position |
| Zero threshold base | Yes | not listed | Flush with the surrounding floor | A barrier-free entry with no curb at all |
The difference that matters is between the layout and the shape. Ella is flexible about layout, so a base can sit in a two-wall corner just as easily as in a three-wall alcove, and it can carry the raised edge you want. Ella is not flexible about shape, so the corner base will have four square corners. In practice, a homeowner who wanted a neo-angle pan with a curb can usually get the corner location and the curb, and gives up only the angled front.
How to Check Whether a Rectangle Fits Your Corner
Before you rule a corner shower in or out, take the same measurements the team will ask for. How Do You Measure a Shower Base, Including a Corner Base? walks through each one, and the short version for a corner is below.
- Measure the footprint. Record the width and the length the base can fill along the two walls. A custom corner base starts at 30 by 30 inches and goes up to 42 by 60 inches. A 36 by 36 inch corner base has been produced, so a compact square corner is a real option.
- Locate the drain. Find the existing drain line in the floor and measure from its center to each wall. On a custom base the drain can be placed left, right or center, but it must sit at least 9 inches from each wall. A drain only 7 inches from the threshold edge is not possible, even on a custom base.
- Note the layout. Write down that the base sits in a corner against two walls. The team places the drain and the finished edges differently for a corner than for a three-wall alcove.
- Note the entry. Record which side is the entry and which edge you want: a raised threshold, a zero threshold flush with the floor, or a curb-less roll-in edge.
If your numbers land inside the corner range, a custom rectangle is very likely the answer. If they fall outside it, compare them with the full list in the standard and custom base sizes to see whether an alcove layout or a standard size would suit the room better.
What This Means for Your Bathroom Plan
A neo-angle pan is usually chosen to tuck a shower into a corner while trimming the front edge. An Ella corner base keeps the corner location and replaces the angled front with a straight one. If the square front corner fits your room, you gain a finished acrylic base that arrives with its slope, drain and threshold already molded in, with no pan to line and no curb to build on site. If the room only works when that front corner is clipped, an Ella base is not the right fit for that spot.
For rooms that are simply awkward instead of angled, such as a space shorter than 60 inches or a drain in an unusual position, a custom rectangular pan for an odd layout often solves the problem. Share your footprint, drain position, layout and preferred threshold with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850, and they can confirm which threshold style suits your bathroom and how it meets your plumbing rough-in.
