How deep is the water really? On every Ella tub the published depth is measured to the overflow, because water rises to the overflow opening and then runs out, so the spec sheet figure is the real depth you can fill to. On the LayDown 30x60 that figure is 15 3/4 inches from the floor of the tub to the overflow, and the team has confirmed that the water does reach 15 3/4 inches. On a seated tub the number to use is the seat-to-overflow measurement for your model. The first thing to check is which figure your spec sheet is quoting and what it is measured from.
Likely Causes
- Expecting depth to be measured to the rim of the tub rather than to the overflow.
- The LayDown spec sheet uses the same template as the seated tubs and prints a seat line, even though LayDown tubs have no seat.
- Comparing the interior floor to a standard bathtub without allowing for the sloped ends and deck of the tub.
- Your own seated height changes where the water lands on your body.
What to Check, in Order
- Find your model's figure. For seated tubs, use the seat-to-overflow column in interior dimensions and soaking depth by model. Across the mid-size models it runs roughly 15 to 18 inches.
- For the LayDown 30x60, use these numbers: 30 inches wide by 60 inches long, 21 inches tall, a 46 by 20 inch interior floor, and 15 3/4 inches from the floor to the overflow. If a brochure cover shows this model as 30 by 52, that is a known misprint. Full details are in the LayDown tub guide.
- Ignore the seat line on the LayDown spec sheet. The floor is a flat 46 by 20 inches, and the soaking space widens to about 53 by 25 1/2 inches above the floor.
- Measure yourself. Sit in a chair facing a wall, measure your shoulder width and your head-to-feet length while seated, and note your seated torso length so you can compare it with the seat-to-overflow figure and the interior length of the tub. The method is in seat sizes and soaking depth.
- Fill no higher than the center of the drain handle, and remember that the overflow carries away anything that rises above it. Gallon figures for each model are in water capacity by model.
When to Open a Ticket
If the depth you measure at home does not match the spec, or you want a fit check before ordering, send your model, your seated measurements, and a photo of the overflow with a tape measure from the floor or seat, through ellasbubbles.com/support. Your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 will confirm the depth for your unit.
The video explains that soaking depth comes from the interior length of the tub, the length of the seat, and the depth from the top of the seat to the center of the overflow drains, and that the bather's own size decides the final result.
