Hinged Glass Screen Door Out of Line With the Frame: Adjusting the Hinges

A hinged glass door on an Ella shower screen is aligned by loosening the hinge screws on the glass panel side of the hinge, moving the door into line with the frame, and tightening the screws back down. If the problem is a gap between two doors rather than a door that is out of line, the adjusting set screw on the hinge nearest the door changes that gap. Neither adjustment requires removing the screen from the tub.

How to Tell Which Adjustment You Need

Close the door and look at how it meets the frame. If the door does not sit even with the frame, the glass needs to be realigned in its hinges. If the door is even with the frame but the space between two glass panels is too wide or too tight, the hinge set screw is the adjustment to make. If water is leaking at the floor rather than at the door edge, check that the bottom track is lined up with the tub door before touching the hinges. Realigning a Door That Is Out of Line with the Frame

1. Have a second person support the glass so it cannot drop or swing while the screws are loose.
2. Loosen the hinge screws on the glass panel side of each hinge. Do not loosen the screws that fasten the hinge to the tub wall or the frame post.
3. Move the door until it is aligned with the frame.
4. Hold the door in that position and tighten the glass side screws back up.
5. Close the door and confirm it meets the frame evenly along the full height, then open and close it several times to be sure it swings freely.

Adjusting the Gap Between Two Doors

On screens with two hinged panels, the spacing between the panels is adjusted with the set screw that is closer to the door on the hinge. Make small turns and check the gap after each one until the panels meet evenly without binding. Check the Screen Position Too

If the door still will not line up after adjustment, confirm that the screen frame itself is installed correctly.
