Does the Monthly Vinegar Flush Clean the Air Massage Lines Too?

Yes. The monthly vinegar flush cleans the air massage lines as well as the hydro jet lines. The air and hydro systems on an Ella walk-in tub are fully plumbed, and when you fill the tub to 1 inch above the highest jets and run it for 10 minutes with the systems on, the vinegar and water mixture circulates through every jet, including the air jets and the microbubble lines on tubs that have them. Why One Flush Covers Both Systems

Owners often picture the vinegar flush as a hydro-only job because the hydro pump is the part that visibly moves water. The published routine does not separate the two systems. Because the air and hydro lines are both plumbed into the bath water, anything that goes into the tub can travel through either set of lines, and that includes the vinegar mixture on flush day. Filling to 1 inch above the highest jets is the step that makes this work. It submerges every jet opening on the tub so that no line is left dry while the systems run. Running the tub for the full 10 minutes then gives the mixture time to move through every line before it goes down the drain.

The vinegar does two jobs in those lines. It helps prevent mineral deposits and calcification, and it loosens the soap and oil residue that collects when bath products get into the plumbing. That residue is what eventually shows up as black flakes or slime from the jets, and it is usually left by bath bombs, oils and salts. The table shows the division of labor. How to Run the Flush so the Air Lines Get It

1. Fill the tub with water until it sits 1 inch above the highest jets. The published recipe does not call for a particular water temperature, so fill it the way you would for a normal bath.
2. Mix 2 cups of plain white vinegar with 2 cups of water and add it to the tub. This is the whole amount for a full tub of any size, and the recipe is the same on every Ella model, including microbubble tubs.
3. Start every therapy system your tub has. Each system has its own push control, so press the hydro control and the air control. On a three-speed air massage the first press is high speed.
4. Let the tub run for 10 minutes so the solution circulates through every line, then drain completely.
5. In the same session, clear hair and debris from the pump inlet cover and wipe it with a non-abrasive towel and an approved cleaner.

Store-Bought Jetted Tub Cleaners

Ella's technical support has confirmed that Nutra-Max, a cleaner made for jetted tubs, is safe for an Ella walk-in tub and can be used to cleanse and disinfect the hydro massage system in place of the vinegar and water mixture. It will not harm the tub. That confirmation is specific to Nutra-Max, and vinegar remains the standard routine in every Ella cleaning document, so vinegar is the default for the monthly flush of the air and hydro lines. Bleach is not part of Ella's instructions and is not a substitute for either product.
