How Many 20 Amp Circuits Does the Ella Monaco Walk-In Tub Need?

Mis à jour Septembre 2026

The Ella Monaco needs one or two dedicated 20 amp, 120 volt GFCI protected circuits, and the number depends on the therapy package on your order, not on the Monaco name or its size. A Monaco with hydro only or with air plus hydro runs on one line, and adding microbubble, independent foot massage or a heated seat brings it to two. The rule for the whole Ella line is in How Many GFCI Circuits Does My Walk-In Tub Need?, and this page applies it to the Monaco so your electrician can plan the rough-in with confidence.

Monaco Circuit Count by Therapy Package

Ella's published line counts follow the pumps and options, and every labeled cord on the tub needs its own dedicated circuit that shares nothing with any other appliance. Here is how that plays out for the packages a Monaco can carry.

Monaco packageDedicated 20 amp GFCI linesWhat it means for the rough-in
Soaker, no pumpsNoneNo outlet is needed, because the drains are gravity driven
Hydro massage1One dedicated outlet for the tub alone
Air + Hydro1One dedicated outlet still covers both systems
Hydro + Microbubble2Two outlets, each on its own circuit
Hydro + independent foot massage2Two outlets, each on its own circuit
Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot, push controls2The published schematic lists the Monaco and shows two wall outlets
Hydro + Hydro Foot + Microbubble2The published schematic lists the Monaco, with three pumps on two dedicated lines
A package with the heated seat option2The heated seat variants are published at two lines

The difference between one line and two is the difference between one new circuit from your panel and two, so it is worth knowing before the walls are closed. A Monaco never needs three circuits. Three dedicated lines are called for only on the ShaK, the Big4One and the two seat tubs with the full package, and the three outlet schematic prints just two model names, Shak and Big4One. If you are curious how that larger setup is laid out, What electrical circuits does the Ella ShaK need for all four therapies? walks through it.

What on the Monaco Actually Draws Power

The Monaco overview video presents the tub with a three speed air massage with Auto Purge, hydro massage therapy with an intensity control dial, and an in-line water heater that maintains a consistent, comfortable water temperature. The three system schematics that list the Monaco also draw an ozone generator, an LED chromatherapy light and the electronic control box. All of that equipment plugs in under the seat area, and the labeled cords are what set your circuit count.

The Monaco spec sheet has an Electrical Requirements section, and that sheet, together with the package written on your order paperwork, is what your electrician should work from. Ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 to email the electrical diagram for your exact package before rough-in, so the count and the outlet location are settled early.

Does the Heated Seat Need Its Own Circuit, and Can It Be 15 Amp?

The heated seat and backrest is an electrical option, and Ella's published counts place the heated seat variants at two dedicated lines. So if you add the heated seat to an air plus hydro Monaco, plan for two circuits, not one. The heated seat is listed as its own add-on, so check that it appears on your order confirmation, and have your electrician review the spec sheet for your exact combination of options.

On the 15 amp question, 20 amps is the published standard for every line. A 15 amp line can work on some lighter packages, but it is not what Ella specifies, and a new circuit is the perfect moment to do it right. The plug itself can settle the matter. The Master Control Box Explanation video shows two master control boxes, which run the massage systems and include the heated seat connections. One has a standard three prong 15 amp plug. The other has an actual 20 amp plug, with one blade turned sideways, and that plug only fits a 20 amp receptacle. Installing 20 amp dedicated lines from the start means either box plugs in without a second visit from your electrician.

How the Two Line Packages Are Drawn

Two published component diagrams list the Monaco with three systems. The Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot diagram with push controls prints the Monaco in its Available On box, and the Hydro + Hydro Foot + Microbubble diagram prints it in its Available With box. Both show two wall outlets, and each outlet carries the same printed requirement: GFCI protected, dedicated line, 20 amp, 120 volts.

The Hydro + Hydro Foot + Microbubble package is the busiest of the group, with two hydro pumps, one for the seat jets and one for the foot jets, plus the microbubble water pump and its pressure vessel. What the Hydro + Hydro Foot + Microbubble Schematic Shows explains that drawing component by component. The same two line layout applies to other models that share these schematics, as described in What electrical circuits does the Transfer32 three-system therapy package require?

What to Give Your Electrician Before the Tub Arrives

  1. The package name from your order paperwork. The line count follows the package, so this is the first thing to confirm.
  2. The cord count. Once the tub is on site, count the labeled cords. On a two line tub the stickers read Line 1 20 Amp and Line 2 20 Amp, and each cord gets its own circuit.
  3. One plug per circuit. Two labeled cords on one GFCI circuit trip the breaker as soon as the second pump starts.
  4. One layer of GFCI protection. The GFCI can sit at the breaker or at the receptacle. One or the other is sufficient.
  5. Outlet location. Place the outlets under the seat area, inside or directly behind the equipment compartment, so the pump and heater cords reach without extension cords.
  6. Clearance. Keep other appliances at least 3 feet from the tub.

Electrical work is done by a local licensed electrician, and Ella's technical support is happy to supply the diagram and answer their questions along the way through ellasbubbles.com/support or (800) 480-6850.

Questions fréquentes

Does an air plus hydro Monaco need two circuits?
No. Hydro only, air only, or hydro plus air runs on one dedicated 20 amp, 120 volt GFCI protected circuit. The count rises to two when microbubble, independent foot massage or a heated seat is added.
Will the Monaco ever need three dedicated circuits?
No. Three dedicated lines are published only for the ShaK, the Big4One and the two seat tubs with the full package. The three system schematics that list the Monaco show two wall outlets.
Can I plug both Monaco cords into one GFCI outlet?
No. Each labeled cord needs its own dedicated circuit that shares nothing with any other appliance. Two cords on one circuit trip the breaker as soon as the second pump starts.
Is a 15 amp circuit acceptable for the heated seat?
The published standard is a dedicated 20 amp line. A 15 amp line can work on some lighter packages, but some master control boxes carry a true 20 amp plug with one blade turned sideways, which needs a 20 amp receptacle. Planning 20 amp circuits avoids that surprise.
Does the Monaco size change the number of circuits?
No. The line count follows the pumps and options on your order, not the model name or the footprint. Two Monaco tubs of the same size can need different circuit counts if their therapy packages differ.
Where can I find the electrical diagram for my Monaco package?
Your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 can email the electrical diagram for your model and package. Request it before rough-in so your electrician has the circuit count and the outlet location in hand.
