If your walk-in tub stays dry while it fills and then begins dripping underneath the moment the water reaches the top row of jets, the air manifold has very likely dropped below its correct position. The manifold is the small distribution block that feeds the air lines, and it belongs at the very highest point under the deck so water cannot back into it. When the ties holding it work loose and it sags, water enters the air lines as soon as the fill covers the upper jets and finds its way out under the tub. The fix is mechanical rather than a parts order. Your installer re-secures the manifold to the frame at the highest level underneath the deck, and no line needs to be patched or replaced.
Why the Leak Only Starts at a Certain Fill Height
Every air jet is plumbed back to the manifold. As long as the manifold and the hoses feeding it sit above the water level, gravity keeps the water in the tub and out of the air system. The manifold is tied up tight against the underside of the deck for exactly this reason. If those snap ties work loose, the manifold drops and ends up below the water line once the tub is filled past the upper jets. That is why the leak appears at one specific fill height rather than as soon as water enters the tub, and it is why the shell itself is not the problem.
The same rule applies to the valve at the end of the hydro line. Ella's technical team describes this fitting as a vent for the hydro system, and it is also secured underneath the deck at the highest level of the tub, tied to the frame rather than left hanging.
How Your Installer Corrects It
- Drain the tub completely and remove the apron or access panel so the underside of the deck is visible.
- Locate the air manifold, the block where the small air hoses gather, and follow the hydro line to the vent valve at its end.
- Check the snap ties or zip ties holding each one. Loose, broken or missing ties confirm the diagnosis.
- Lift the manifold and the vent valve to the highest available point directly under the deck and secure them to the stainless steel frame with new ties, keeping them above the highest jet.
- Refill the tub past the highest jets, run the air system briefly, then let the tub sit while you watch underneath for drips.
- If water still appears, photograph the manifold, its ties and the wet area, and open a ticket so the team can review the pictures.
How This Differs from Other Air-System Leaks
A leak that begins exactly when the water reaches the top jets is different from water sitting inside the blower.
