Installing a Glue-Up Tile Flange: Step-by-Step | Ella’s Bubbles

In this video, we will show you how to install the Glue Up Tile Flange from Ella's Bubbles. This kit comes with the following items. A roll of Sealux to fit your requirements, alcohol surface cleaning cloths, a custom spatula tool, and a strip alignment card. We also offer Sealux in bulk form for contractors. Sealux is a patented and unique product. C-Lux is a flexible flange consisting of a durable, waterproof adhesive fabric and a siliconized membrane that will react and then chemically bond to the applied silicone sealant, thereby creating a tight, durable waterproof seal.

When 100% silicone is applied to the patented pink silicone based strip of C-Lux, it creates a tremendously strong bond. This guarantees a waterproof seal during general expansion and contraction and also from routine floor settling. The first step in the installation process is to mark out the strip position on the shower walls to ensure the strip will be aligned correctly. There are two strip alignment methods. Here's the first method using a two-wall shower enclosure.

Locate the shower floor or tub temporarily in its working position. Resting the alignment card on the ledge against the wall, mark each wall at least twice, 75 millimeters above the ledge. Mark the wall also where the tub floor or the shower floor ends. Remove the tub or shower floor and draw horizontal lines through the upper wall marks and vertical lines 5 millimeters outside the tub end marks. For tighter 3-wall shower enclosures, you can use a different method of marking the lines without having to slide the tub into the working position.

To calculate the height Y of the stripped upper edge on the wall above the floor, simply add 75 millimeters on the anticipated height X. The receptor ledge will be above the floor after installation. Mark the walls at the calculated height Y and draw wall lines following the same procedures explained for the two-wall enclosure. Trim strip as needed. Align the strip upper edge to the wall line and hang it on the wall using tape.

Use the straight edge of the spatula tool to push the strip fully into the corners. Carefully and slowly pull the adhesive release liner down off the strip leaving the strip hanging but not bonded to the wall. Using the spatula tool press bond the strip fully into each corner then press bond the exposed adhesive bed on the back of the strip against the wall without creasing. Remove the tape. At this point we recommend using painters tape to protect the walls as we move to the next step.

Fold the strip away from the wall. Using thin set mortar or other waterproof silicone caulk or adhesive, apply a light zigzag line of adhesive on the wall between the strip and the wall line. Using the serrated edge of the spatula tool, comb spread the sealant thinly on the wall. Slowly raise the strip and apply gentle even pressure. the strip completely onto the wall. Using the straight edge of the spatula tool, press bond the strip into the corners and then press the strip onto the remaining wall surfaces without greasing.

Remove the painter's tape and clean off any excessive adhesive. Before sliding the tub or shower base into its final position, clean the surface area carefully with alcohol wipes. This will help with silicone adherence. Here's how the C-Lux membrane would look when applied with an Ella Walk-In tub in a 3-wall alcove. For 3-wall alcove installations, to prevent smearing, a layer of silicone should be placed on the back edge of the base and the back of the wall as well.

For 3-wall alcove installations, apply silicone as shown here, making sure there's good contact with the siliconized membrane. This will guarantee a durable leak-proof seal. For 2-wall corner installation, a layer of silicone must be applied to the outer side of the base facing each wall. Another layer of silicone should be placed on the membrane. It's imperative that there are no gaps in the silicone layer, so the sealant bonds completely with the silicone, thereby creating a tight waterproof seal.

Again, protect the surface of the tub or shower floor with painters tape before the next step. Carefully apply a bead of waterproof sealant or silicone to the joint between the tub or shower floor and the wall. Using the corner of the spatula tool smooth the silicone creating a nice clean bead. Remove the painter's tape. After placing a protective mat onto the shower or tub floor, tiling can commence. After placing another bead of silicone or other waterproof sealant between the tub floor and the tiles, flooring can begin.
