What is the Ella Escape 36x72 two seat walk-in tub like?

Mis à jour Novembre 2026

The Ella Escape is a two-seat walk-in tub measuring 36 inches wide by 72 inches long by 40 inches tall, with two facing seats of 27 and 29 inches, an inward-swinging removable brushed stainless steel door, and hydro massage, independent foot and calf massage, three-speed air massage and LED chromatherapy all included. It is the largest inward-swing two-seater Ella builds and holds 145 gallons unoccupied. Can a walk-in tub hold two people at the same time? places the Escape beside its siblings; this page is the Escape on its own, with every figure from its spec sheet and product video.

Size, Seats and Water

The Escape's actual size is 36 by 72 by 40 inches, and it ships in a 40 by 76 by 49 inch crate at 398 pounds, with a net weight of 286 pounds. The two seats face each other and measure 27 inches on one side and 29 inches on the other, which the product video calls a full seat on each side, with 60 inches of overall soaking length between them. The tub holds 145 gallons unoccupied and 85 to 135 gallons with bathers in it, the largest two-seat fill in the line, shared with the Big4Two. That 72 inch length and 36 inch width mean the Escape belongs in a bathroom that can give up more floor than a standard 60 inch tub takes, and the 145 gallon fill is why the water heater question matters more for the Escape than for the 60 inch two-seaters. The video on this page walks around the tub and shows the seats, the twin faucets, the door and the drains.

Door, Deck, Faucets and Drains

The door is a custom-crafted brushed stainless steel panel with frosted tempered glass that swings inward and lifts out for easy cleaning. Like every Ella tub the Escape has an extra-low threshold and a textured floor for slip resistance. The deck carries a removable front apron with two access panels, one reversible end panel, a wall-mounted stainless steel grab bar in chrome finish, a stainless steel towel bar, and Ella's patented 360 degree swivel tray in white matte, which the video notes comes standard.

The Escape is filled by two 2-piece fast-fill faucet sets, one at each end, each designed for up to 16 gallons per minute at 60 PSI with ideal home plumbing. Each set has a solid brass chrome spout, two 5 foot supply lines with 3/4 inch connectors, a 40 millimeter high-flow cartridge and a pull-out hand shower with 5 settings on a 5 foot braided hose, limited to 1.9 gallons per minute. Each faucet installs through a 2 1/2 inch hole for the faucet, a 1/3 inch hole for the mounting rods and a 7/8 inch diagonal hole for the hand shower, and the supply lines connect to shutoff valves that are not included. Draining uses Ella's dual drain technology: two independent 2 inch four-port PVC floor drains with two end caps, two overflows and two stainless steel cable-operated openers with extended chrome handles. Your installer can run each drain out in either direction and cap the unused ports. The electrical requirement is dedicated GFCI protected lines for 115 volt, 60 hertz equipment, with every fixture on a dedicated GFCI outlet or breaker.

Therapy Systems Included

  • Seat hydro massage: a 7 amp, 1000 watt pump feeds 18 upper seat jets, 9 on each seat, with an intensity dial and on/off from the digital controller.
  • Independent foot and calf hydro massage: a separate 7 amp, 1000 watt pump drives 4 foot jets and 4 calf jets on its own push control, with a 5.5 amp, 650 watt in-line water heater and 0.04 amp ozone sterilization. The video makes the point that you do not need to fill the whole tub to enjoy a foot massage.
  • Air massage: a 4.5 amp, 500 watt three-speed pump feeds 16 seat jets, 8 on each seat, plus 3 foot jets, controlled from the digital pad. The first press is high speed, the second medium, the third low, and a fourth press turns it off.
  • Auto Purge: about 20 minutes after the air pump is turned off it runs for 120 seconds to blow residual water out of the air lines. It is automatic, cannot be stopped, and is normal even if it starts while you are still in the tub.
  • LED chromatherapy: a multicolor 0.5 amp bulb on a transformer, run from the digital control pad.

Two options are listed. The MicroBubble therapy system adds a 1 horsepower, 7.3 amp pump, a pressure vessel, an agitator valve and its own push control. The heated seat and backrest option, which the video shows activating with the push of a button, adds a heater to each seat. The intensity dial on the hydro system works as it does on every Ella tub: turning it up introduces more air into the jet stream for a stronger flow, and turning it down makes the flow gentler.

What Each Bather Controls

The split is the same on every Ella two-seat tub, and Can each bather in an Ella two-seat tub control their own therapies? explains it from the bather's side. Each bather has their own foot hydro massage, driven by a separate pump with its own on/off button and intensity dial for each side, and with the heated seat option each seat has its own heater box and keypad. The air massage, the seat and back hydro jets and the LED light run from the one digital controller shared by both bathers, so those therapies are on or off for the whole tub at once. Each seat still has its own jets, with no sharing between the two bathing spaces, which is what makes the Escape a true two-seater rather than an extra-large single tub. A single bather can sit on one seat and stretch out with their feet on the other, which the family video in Two-Seat Tubs on Video compares to a recliner.

How the Escape Compares with the Other Two-Seaters

Ella builds four two-seat tubs. The Companion, covered in What is the Ella Companion two-seat walk-in tub for couples?, and the Tub4Two both measure 32 by 60 by 40 inches, hold 100 gallons unoccupied and fit a standard 60 inch alcove, with seats of 23 and 25 inches on the Companion and 20 and 22 inches on the Tub4Two. The Big4Two is the longest at 36 by 80 by 40 inches, with 22 and 24 inch seats, the same 145 gallon unoccupied capacity and 85 to 135 gallon occupied range as the Escape, and a note that it may require a dedicated additional heater. The Escape sits between them in length at 72 inches and carries the widest seats listed in the family at 27 and 29 inches, so it is the two-seater to look at when seat width matters more than the longest possible footprint. The brochure's labeled diagram of a Big4Two, read callout by callout in the brochure callout map, is a useful reference for where the jets, drains and controls sit on the Escape as well, since the layout is shared across the family even though jet counts differ. How much water does the Escape hold when filled?
The Escape holds 145 gallons unoccupied and 85 to 135 gallons with bathers in it, the largest two-seat fill in the line. That volume is why water heater capacity deserves a look before you order.
Can one person use the Escape comfortably alone?
Yes. A solo bather sits on one seat and stretches out with their feet up on the other, like a recliner. The independent foot massage can also be run without filling the whole tub.
Does the Escape have an inward or outward swing door?
The Escape has an inward-swinging brushed stainless steel door with frosted tempered glass. It is removable and lifts out for easy cleaning.
Can each bather in the Escape run their own jets?
Partly. Each side has its own foot hydro massage with its own button and dial, and its own heated seat keypad if that option is fitted. The air massage, seat hydro jets and LED light are shared and run from one digital controller.
Is the Big4Two the same tub as the Escape?
No. The Big4Two is 36 by 80 by 40 inches with 22 and 24 inch seats, while the Escape is 36 by 72 by 40 inches with 27 and 29 inch seats. Both hold 145 gallons unoccupied and 85 to 135 gallons occupied.
