How To Clean a Thermostatic Control Valve Cartridge
- Use a pair of channel locks to grasp the cartridge at the top and bottom. Avoid gripping the rubber gaskets to prevent damage and leaks. Loosen by turning the locks against each other. Once loosened, unthread the top and bottom by hand.
- After unthreading, separate the top and bottom of the cartridge. Disassemble carefully, ensuring that no parts are dropped, lost, or damaged.
- Gently remove the locking clip at the top. If you cannot remove it by hand, use a small flat-head screwdriver or needle-nosed pliers.
- Once the clip is removed, push or tap out the shaft as shown in the instructions.
- Unthread the shaft into two separate parts.
- Thoroughly clean the cartridge using a brush and a suitable solvent. Avoid strong solvents that could damage the rubber gaskets.
- Ensure you have all the cartridge parts. Lubricate each component and reassemble the cartridge in the reverse order of disassembly.
